age appropriate

I was watching the fox channel "outnumbered" show. they were talking about the book
"the fault in our stars" . the discussion was whether the book to be taken out from middle school libraries. the reason being it is too morbid for young readers.
I agree that children should not be reading about mortality .  i was 8 to 9 year old when i read a tragic story of a mother and child dying of hunger. that story made me feel so sad for a very long time, and i started to make alternate ending(a happy one),
where someone rushes to them with a big vessel of food. but still i knew how the story ended in the book and it was haunting me for few months. even now i can not forget it.

p.s. i found that book in the children section of the local library.

uyarntha manidhan 1968

i was watching a melodious song on youtube from movie uyarntha manidhan. I remember this movie seeing in theater at vellore while my visiting my grandma. It was very rare then for me to watch tamil movies as we were living in andhra. Babu,Ganesh and me went to the movies. the best
thing i remember about the movie is popcorn. we bought a masala popcorn bag to be shared.First we thought it may not be enough for three of us. But the spice was so high that we were fretting and fuming half way through. That was fun.

syria bodhan

i was watching tv today where there was discussion about situation in
Syria. the argument is whether or not u.s.a should interfere, the dilemma was whether to respect sovereignty of syria and not interfere or stop the murders of helpless Syrians.it reminded of similar
dilemma my parents were in long ago. of course the problem is nothing compared to Syria. it was in early 60s and we were in a town called Bodhan in AP India. My teacher was living in an outhouse of
the same building we were in. we were all within a shout distance. one night my teacher's husband got drunk and started shouting and beating his wife. we could clearly hear all of it and also the sobbing
of my teacher. My mom got very disturbed and started asking my dad to do something to stop it. My dad was hesitant because it is a domestic matter and he can not interfere in it. Even the law says so.
But he couldn't take it either. So he went to our backyard , which was closer to the outhouse and from there he started talking to my brother in a loud voice. Once my teacher's husband heard my
father's voice he stopped (must have been embarassed or got scared as my father was the local judge.).so whenver helpless become victims people who can should do something

today i came across the movie name "zamindar gari ammayi" in an internet article. it was telugu movie released in 1975. i watched this movie in theater not just with my family, but with the almost entire staff of vijayawada judiciary. my father was the judge there and there was a case against the movie. the washer assn.(an organization of laundry people) were upset by a song scene which showed a washer woman in an objectionable manner. so my father had to see the scene along with the lawyers representing the case. back at that time there were no videos to watch in private. theater is the only place you can see a movie. so there was a special screening. why go waste all that space in the theater. most of the staff from all the courts in vijayawad came with their families to watch movie. it was such a fun. enjoyed it
